Gav’s favourite mainland based Whitsunday tours

There’s a helluva lot more to the Whitsundays than the reef, beaches and islands, your honour! Exhibit A: Gav’s favourite land based tours…

Croc watching in the Whitsundays in natureOne of my favourite tours is the Crocodile Safari on the Proserpine River. The river and wetlands are home to lots of my buddies – native birds, mammals, reptiles and marine animals, including 150 estuarine (saltwater) crocodiles. Now as much as I’m an adventurer, I’m no idiot, so I’m happy sitting in total comfort on the boat, while we glide past the salties, some of the most dangerous crocs in the world. It’s a bit spooky when they look at me though – I swear they’re thinking ‘mmmm…lunch’.) Not today buddy!

Cedar Creek Falls in the Whitsundays can be visited from Airlie BeachWant to discover the rainforest on foot and up close with an expert? Go with Fawlty Tours (tee hee). You’ll visit Cedar Crossing and swim in Cedar Creek Falls. Just make sure to hug a giant Strangler Fig tree – they’re some of the oldest in the world.

Prefer to see the rainforest on two wheels? Jump on a Segway with Whitsunday Segway Tours and glide through spectacular Conway National Park rainforest. for a different tour of Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays with Whitsunday Segway ToursThe 9km round journey including the crystal waters of Impulse Creek is amazing.

Maybe a boardwalk sunset Segway tour with tapas is more your style? Take the 7km journey along the water’s edge past Abell Point Marina, Shingley Beach and Whitsunday Botanic Gardens, into Cannonvale then back to Airlie Beach – with a delicious stop for tapas. Ole!

Fun Rentals Robo Tours outside Fat FrogRobos (mini Segways) tours also explore Airlie Beach and surrounds with a tour to Cannonvale with coffee and cake at the very funky Fat Frog (named after a little old local celebrity – me!!!) or to the Port of Airlie Marina with a stop at Denman Cellars Beer Café.

Montes on the beach at Cape Gloucester is a good spot for lunchFancy playing Robinson Crusoe in the most secluded spot in paradise? The little hamlets of Hydeaway Bay and Dingo Beach are tucked away in the northern Whitsundays. Airlie Beach Transfers and Tours leave from Airlie Beach before arriving in picture-postcard heaven for a yummy lunch or dinner at the Cape Gloucester Beach Resort, Montes Reef Resort or the Dingo Beach Hotel.

And finally I do confess to be a bit of a hoon – I have my own golf cart at Adventure Whitsunday Resort and fang around the place. Ok so I’m only doing 10kmph but to this little frog – that’s fast! So the half day tour at Wings Adventure Park is revving heaven!

Drive a 4WD off road buggy in the Whitsundays at the new Wings Adventure ParkYou jump in a mini ‘open air’ 4WD to explore the Whitsunday hinterland, rocketing through grasslands, wetlands, creek beds and up and down hill climbs. Then tackle the man made course including the log hop, tyre crawl and off camber challenge. My favourite bit is the mud pit challenge, roaring through my natural muddy habitat – whooohoo! Happy as a pig in you know what.

So now you see what fun is to be had on land – get into it! Book a Whitsunday Mainland adventure now!
