Explore the region with a myriad of self-drive options from secluded beaches through to cattle country all an easy drive from Airlie Beach. Don’t have your own car…? We can arrange one for you with a BIG4 discount! An easy 40 minutes drive away is Bowen, famous for it’s beautiful beaches, a little bit further out west is Collinsville in cattle country and the Pit Pony history, the lush rainforest of Eungella National Park is south and a platypus or two can be spotted, or for something for more than half a day option explore Dingo Beach and Hydeaway Bay for great lunch options or Wilsons Beach, Conway Beach to meet some soldier crabs or cool off at Cedar Creek Falls.

  • Cedar Creek Falls: a natural waterfall and swimming hole set in rainforest.
  • Conway Beach and Wilson Beach: be sure to bring your wind-powered sporting equipment, such as kite surfing or land kites.
  • Eungella National Park, Finch Hatton Gorge and Broken River for national park walks and platypus spotting.
  • Peter Faust Dam for some barramundi fishing and BYO waterskiing.
  • Shute Harbour for short walks through the national park or to a secluded beach.
  • Hydeaway Bay, Dingo Beach and Cape Gloucester for quiet, beautiful beaches and a good meal.
  • Bowen for stunning beaches and friendly country pubs.
  • Collinsville and beyond for Big River Country, wide open spaces and beautiful Australian landscapes.

Tourism Whitsundays in partnership with Storytowns have launched four new self-driving audio tours featuring the diverse destinations of Airlie Beach, Bowen, Collinsville and Proserpine, sharing stories told by local personalities as travellers drive around and explore The Whitsundays 😍

The informative new podcasts showcase the interesting history of the townships and local community members that make the region so wonderful.
