Camp and sCare raises over $14,500 for Meals on Wheels Proserpine

Camp and sCare

BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort’s annual Camp and sCare has delivered another sell-out weekend of Halloween fun, raising $14,564.35 for Meals on Wheels Proserpine.

Held from 30 October to 1 November, the resort’s 22nd annual Camp and sCare, one of the region’s longest-running and much-loved local charitable events, brought local and visiting families together for a packed program of spooky activities, creative costumes and community fundraising, with all event profits donated to Meals on Wheels Proserpine.

Guests embraced the Halloween spirit, transforming their campsites and cabins with spooky decorations and dressing up for a weekend where giving back was at the heart of the celebrations.

The resort’s Froggy Express took on a ghostly twist, carrying families on ghost train rides, while Halloween biscuit decorating, face painting, night spotting and an outdoor screening of Ghostbusters added to Friday’s festivities.

Saturday began with Monster Pancakes by the Pool before families enjoyed trick-or-treat bag making, Halloween masks, Whitsunday Wildlife encounters and a swim with Hannah the Mermaid. Trick-or-treating throughout the resort, prize presentations and the Monster Mash Disco rounded out the Halloween celebrations.

BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort CEO Phil Casey said the event’s enduring appeal came from the enthusiasm of guests and the opportunity to support a local cause.

“Every year, our guests put so much effort into Camp and sCare, from their costumes and cabin and campsite decorations, to joining in the activities and supporting the fundraising,” Mr Casey said.

“It’s wonderful to see families having such a great time together and knowing their generosity will make a difference here in our own community.

“This year, we’re proud to support Meals on Wheels Proserpine and recognise the important contribution its team and volunteers make to local people.”

On Monday, the resort team presented a cheque for $14,564.35 to Christine O’Sullivan, President of Meals on Wheels Proserpine, this year’s sole charity beneficiary. The funds were raised through the donation of 100% of proceeds from all Friday night campsite bookings, along with gold coin donations from activities throughout the weekend.

Ms O’Sullivan said the support would make an immense difference to the service.

“This wonderful support will help Meals on Wheels Proserpine immensely, particularly with the continuing rise in food purchasing costs and the general upkeep of our premises and delivery vehicle,” Ms O’Sullivan said.

“Our service also needs to replace our ageing generator in the very near future. It is a vital piece of equipment, especially as we head into storm and cyclone season.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude to everyone involved in this marvellous event. Thank you.”

Mr Casey thanked the resort team, guests and business supporters for their contributions, including prize donors Cruise Whitsundays, Ocean Rafting, Pioneer Adventures and Scamper Whitsundays.

“Our team puts an enormous amount of energy and creativity into making this weekend special, and we’re very grateful to everyone who helped bring it together,” he said.

“For the McKinnon family and our resort team, supporting the local community has always been an important part of what we do. Camp and sCare is a tradition we’re proud to share with our guests year after year.”

With another sell-out celebration complete, Camp and sCare continues its long-standing tradition of bringing families together for Halloween fun while supporting a local charity.
