The newest meeting, event and wedding venue in Airlie Beach officially opened in August 2014. The Palm House is a purpose built, multi-faceted function space offering a gorgeous garden setting with wonderful catering and event services, located on the sub-tropical Queensland coast, adjacent to the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and the Whitsunday islands.
With one large or three smaller function spaces, The Palm House can cater for an intimate wedding reception, a large themed dinner dance with 170 sit-down or a conference and cocktail party for up to 250 guests. Available seven days a week, The Palm House will be popular for business and community meetings by day and parties by night with the added advantage of self-catering accommodation onsite at multi-award winning BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort.
Owner Naomi McKinnon says, “we have already had brides booking a year in advance as they love the concept of having all their family and friends staying at the one resort and everyone being able to stroll through the beautiful gardens to the reception.”
Besides happy and relaxed brides, imagine the delight of staff getting out of the office for a meeting in such a beautiful tropical environment. With two local airports, easy road access from Townsville to Rockhampton and further west, Airlie Beach is in an ideal central location to hold a meeting or event. From a small think tank, board meetings or a larger sales conference, this is the perfect environment in which to slow down and think outside the box. It is also possible to mix business and family life as BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort caters for family-style conferences with a Kid’s Club and daily activity schedules for family, a separate program for business delegates, team building and evening social events including mini-golf tournaments, outdoor movies and BBQ’s by the pool.
With in-house AV equipment and screen, professional photographers, audio and video consultants, DJs, event theming and catering services, the vibrant event team at The Palm House have the expertise required to create paradise found for all types of functions and events. Both The Palm House and the Resort manage to capture the essence of the relaxed, Australian lifestyle while impressing with quality staff and services, contemporary cabins, spotless public areas, lush tropical gardens and extensive facilities. BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort has accommodation capacity for over 700 guests and offers easy access to the Great Barrier Reef, Whitsunday islands, a vast array of tours, fishing, boating and many other water based activities.
• In keeping with the “botanic-like” gardens of BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort some 250 tonnes of rock have been used to build the garden at The Palm House which includes over 60 varieties of exotic palms and 54 varieties of exotic bromeliads. All the bromeliads and most of the palms were seeded onsite at the resort’s nursery. Some exotic palms were also sourced from Babinda and Mission Beach in Queensland.
• The space where The Palm House is erected has had many prior uses including a horse paddock, veggie garden, swimming pool, soccer pitch and a chook pen. Plenty of ideas have sprouted from this patch and we imagine plenty more will be developed in the future!
