We offer a range of rooms and facilities to cater for assisted wheelchair users and guests with access requirements. Accessible parking spaces are provided both at reception and at the accommodation, and an accessible bathroom is available for those staying on powered sites.

Our adapted cabins have thoughtful touches to enhance the experience of guests who are blind or have low vision. Registered assistance animals, such as dog guides assisting travellers who are blind or have low vision, are most welcome at the resort, and are provided with a box including bowls, bedding and litter bags to make your stay a breeze. Ample grassy areas are available around the resort for toileting your dog. There are areas with braille signage around the resort and the resort compendium is available on your smart device via scanning a QR code.

Our reception is fitted with a fixed counter hearing loop system which is easily identified to provide clear communication for hearing aid wearers and we can also provide a wireless portable hearing loop, which is available to book throughout your stay.

Our accessible Cushman Shuttle 8 Wheelchair Conversion buggy provides transportation around the resort and has been tailored to suit our needs with adaptations to allow for a ramp and area for wheelchair access.

A pool hoist/aquatic lift is also installed at our main resort lagoon pool, allowing guests with mobility access requirements the enjoyment of our lovely 32m lagoon pool, which is also heated in winter and cooled in summer.

BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort is conveniently located at 25-29 Shute Harbour Road, Cannonvale, just four kilometres from the centre of Airlie Beach, the gateway to the stunning Whitsundays on the tropical North Queensland coast.

Flights

Most domestic airlines offer flights to Whitsunday Coastal Airport in Proserpine, approximately 30 kilometres southwest of Airlie Beach. Coach services are available for transfers from the airport to Cannonvale and Airlie Beach. Taxis, Ubers and rental cars are also available. We recommend pre-booking an Accessible Taxi or Accessible Maxi Taxi online or by calling (07) 4944 4931 to ensure your transport is confirmed ready for your arrival.

Trains

The nearest train station is in Proserpine. Whitsunday Transit bus services meet each train and can drop you at the door of your accommodation. Buses

Buses operate to and from Airlie Beach, with regular local bus services providing connections to the resort. Please speak with our friendly Reception team to determine which scheduled bus is accessible friendly for people with access requirements. Many local tour operators offer courtesy bus pick-up at the resort entrance.

Whitsunday Provisioning, Woolworths and Coles allow you to order your groceries before you leave home and have them ready and waiting when you arrive.

Resort Information

A map of the resort can be accessed here. Arriving at the resort off Shute Harbour Road, you’ll enter the central resort driveway. To your right is the visitor carpark, and to your left is the main office and reception area. Beside the office is the much-loved Sensory Room, and behind this is the Bunk House. Condos, cottages, villas and studios line the central and furthest driveways to the North and East, with powered campsites nestled around the southern, eastern and western edges of the resort. If you follow the main driveway to where it forks, you’ll arrive at a circular driveway that wraps around the main entertainment precinct. Here you’ll find the waterslide park, pool, outdoor cinema, playground, sporting facilities and fragrant gardens. Located near the mini-golf you will find Kermit’s Activity Hub home to Kermit’s Kid’s Club, toddler time and adult classes.  The Animal Park is located at the farthest end of the resort.

Accessible Accommodation Options

BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort offers five accessible rooms catering to the needs of wheelchair users and guests with access requirements. These include three accessible Deluxe Studios and two accessible 2-bedroom Premium Cottage Deluxe cabins.

The Deluxe Studios accommodate up to five guests, while the Premium Cottage Deluxe sleeps up to six. The Accessible Studios are spread out throughout the resort, while the Accessible Cottages are located between the main entertainment precinct and the Animal Park, towards the back of the resort grounds.

Each accessible cabin has a ramp and a wider floor plan for easy access, underbed clearance for a hoist, as well as an accessible-friendly bathroom with fixed grab bars, handrails and shower seats. These self-contained rooms allow guests to prepare their own meals, and are super-clean, bright and breezy with tasteful contemporary décor and their own lush, secluded garden.

Cabins which aren’t in our accessible range have a maximum of five steps to their verandas, which are then one level throughout. To provide ease of access to these cabins when travelling with family and friends, guests with accessible needs may make use of our portable ramp to access selected cabins.

Our dormitory style accommodation, the Bunk House, offers purpose-built configurations for school groups and features its own dining/entertainment area, kitchen and bathroom amenities, while offering full access to resort facilities. It also features accessible amenities and a designated Accessible Room with an Uplift Adjustable Base King Single Accessible Bed.

Accommodation for Low Vision

Accessible Deluxe Studio C12 offers self contained facilities with a range of thoughtful adaptations designed to meet the needs of guests who are blind or have low vision. Cabin 12 is designed with a lower kitchen and furniture, contrasting colours, Braille signage, 3D clock and raised tactile markers on appliances. We also offer a Visual Aides’ box, with A4 magnifying sheet and liquid level detector to any guests who may find it helpful.

The Bunk House Group Accommodation

Our modern Bunk House dormitory style accommodation offers purpose-built configurations for social and school groups and features 18 private dormitory rooms with 71 beds (17 x quad and 1 x designated Accessible triple room with an Uplift Adjustable Base King Single Accessible Bed), as well as accessible bathrooms/amenities, kitchen and alfresco dining/entertainment area. With full use of all the “fun stuff” at the resort, the private rooms have four single beds (2 x bunk beds), a small fridge, flat screen TV with streaming services, free Wifi, cupboard, linen and towels, fans, air-conditioning, audio system/portable mic and more!

BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort provides the perfect destination for your next camping, caravan or motorhome adventure, with stunning sites and exceptional amenities adding a touch of glamour to this nostalgic tradition.

The powered slab sites are some of the largest in Airlie Beach, offering a sense of peace and privacy. Drive-through options are available and our team are more than happy to help if you require assistance onto site…please just ask! Beautiful, powered grass sites are ideal for tents and camper trailer. All campsites are surrounded by a lush mini rainforest of palms, fragrant shrubs and rock gardens, forming your own private, tranquil retreat amidst the resort’s outstanding facilities. We have numerous powered slab sites with the concrete slabs level to the ground (some with artificial grass to offer a smoother surface) and can also offer a portable ramp to assist with access onto our powered slab sites. The large amenities block near the powered slab sites offers a private, accessible bathroom.

Powered ensuite sites offer the ultimate in convenience, with fully tiled private bathrooms ensuring there’s no need for midnight runs to the nearest amenities block.

A large, accessible camp kitchen is located a short walk from the main entertainment precinct. It features stainless steel benches, hot plates, barbecues, microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge – everything you need to whip up a family feast or simple snack. With a huge plasma television and seating for up to 60 people, it’s little wonder this ‘glamping’ kitchen is a social hotspot! Meet new friends, swap travel tales, and bask in the balmy warm evening atmosphere.

There are ample additional barbecues and two spotlessly clean amenities blocks dotted throughout the resort. These ultra-modern facilities feature a host of thoughtful touches to make your holiday a breeze, including ample clothes hooks, huge changing area and even a hairdryer! Families are also well catered for, with large family bathrooms with lots of bench space, baby bath, and toddler hip bath. Each amenities block also boasts a coin-operated laundry.

We are proudly accredited in the QTAB Accessible Tourism categories of Limited Mobility and Wheelchairs/Scooters and Accessible Accommodation Independent Wheelchair User Certified.

With a universal design and flat land throughout the resort, to a wheelchair user or those with access requirements, the only inaccessible area is the stairs to the slides at our waterslide park. All other resort facilities and amenities are accessible on one level, allowing guests to freely enjoy most of the resort’s attractions and facilities.

The Reilly Room

Here at BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort we believe every family deserves a great holiday and we are so pleased to provide our guests with a fully facilitated sensory room, The Reilly Room.

With all the features you would expect to find in an autism specific educational setting, we also provide guests who are planning to use the room with a special Social Script, allowing the family to explain what their child can expect on their holiday.

For guests who would like access to The Reilly Room during their stay, it is accessible with a key which you may keep for the duration of your stay to use as needed. The facility is set up for use by one family at a time for the comfort and benefit of the user. An ‘occupied’ sign highlights when the room is being used so whoever is ‘settling’ will not be interrupted.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme

This means that those with a hidden disability can choose to wear a Sunflower lanyard or wristband to make their disability visible to those around them while in the resort. Our poolside mobile cafe serves seriously good coffee and delicious breakfast and lunch options, with gluten free, vegetarian and other adapted options available for individual requests. The cafe is located on flat level ground with flexible seating options. You can view the menu here and pre-order at your leisure from the comfort of your cabin, camping site or whilst poolside.

For evening meal options, please refer to our Activities Guide as we also have a range of food vendors with varying specialities who visit the resort.

The Reef Gateway Bistro over the road offers pub classics with plenty of options for the kids, while also catering to dietary requirements and special requests.

Our resort also offers two camp kitchens with cooking facilities for campers and all cabins are fully equipped for self-catering.

For groups, our range of catering suppliers offer everything from spit roasts to buffets and menus can be adapted to suit any dietary requirement.

Prior to your stay you will receive an email with ideas for pre-ordering meals and provisions through our partners including Fishi Seafood or Whitsunday Provisioning, who can supply everything from your first day’s meals through to all the food for your entire holiday, as well as links to Woolworths and Coles online and details on nearby restaurants. Our resort is like an enchanting tropical playground for kids where they are free to roam, explore and play all day, while safely contained within the resort’s 26 acres. Knowing they’re having the kind of holiday you loved as a kid – endless fun, loads of new friends and being completely worn out by the end of the day, collapsing in delicious, sun-kissed exhaustion.

Our amazing menu of (mostly free) on-site activities and facilities includes our BIG, HUGE, MEGA 13 slide waterpark, Kids’ Club, 32m lagoon pool (heated in winter), toddler pool, animal park, playground, jumping pillows, mini golf, tennis, outdoor cinema, basketball, volleyball, poolside massage and an extensive activity guide every week.

National Companion Cardholders who are staying onsite at BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort can receive free of charge accommodation when staying in the same cabin/powered site as the person they are caring for. 

If a second cabin or site are required, a discounted rate is applicable and we will do everything we can to accommodate with a cabin or powered site next to the person requiring the care, however please note this is subject to availability, based on the style of accommodation required. 

Companion Card bookings can only be made directly with the resort. A valid National, State or Territory companion card must be presented at check-in.

For any mobility equipment required for your holiday, we have sourced business in the local and regional area who can hire items to you for your comfort whilst on holiday. We can help co-ordinate delivery when the items are on site with storage prior to your arrival and delivery into your accommodation.

HIRE EQUIPMENT

BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort recognises the valuable role of Assistance Animals and welcomes trained assistance animals to our resort. While the resort is pet free, please advise upon booking that you will be travelling with an Assistance Animal so that we can ensure everything is organised ready for your arrival. Please ensure you have your acceptable Assistance Animal evidence and paperwork ready when booking, or upon arrival at the resort. For further details relating to acceptable evidence, please feel free to discuss with our friendly team.

From the Bicentennial Walk, through to the Airlie Beach Lagoon, there are self paced activities allowing you to explore the Whitsunday mainland.

Bicentennial Walkway

The Bicentennial Walkway is a great way to enjoy the spectacular views of the Whitsunday waters along its coastline, a 4 kilometre long (or 8km round trip) waterfront trail showcasing the wonderful coastal views off Airlie Beach.

It’s a very well planned and maintained walk that both locals and visitors enjoy, offering wonderful outlooks both to the open water, and of Coral Sea Marina at around the halfway point, along with its many extravagant yachts and other vessels.

The walk features several cafes, restaurants and bars along the way that make for good spots for a bite to eat or drop to drink, while you will also have the opportunity to spot marine life such as fish and turtles by gazing down into the water as the pathway follows the waterline throughout almost the entire walk.

Concrete paths and boardwalks makes it accessible to beaches, Marinas, local cafes and restaurants along the way.

Airlie Beach Lagoon

Dietary requirements can be catered for and pre-order and takeaway options are also available.
