Gala Opening of The Palm House

Saturday night, 30 August 2014, saw the Gala Opening of The Palm House with 110 elegantly attired guests enjoying the evening hosted by the McKinnon family. A wide cross-section of people from the community were invited and many local suppliers came together to deliver a top-quality Whitsunday event.

People were greeted by uniformed staff on arrival at the entrance to BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort and directed through the colourfully lit tropical garden and The Palm Pavilion to The Palm House. Beautifully adorned floral garden nymphs combining costume and body paint from Melbourne based Event Theatre International performed to complement the magical garden theme, created by The Event Company, while local high school student and pianist Isabelle Silberling entertained guests.

Mr Danial Rochford from WMDL spoke along with Mr Greg McKinnon who provided interesting historical facts about the development of the resort. Mrs Jan McKinnon, the matriarch of the family, gave an impromptu speech congratulating her children on taking the park to another level. With this pre-Christmas entertainment running daily from 9am – 3pm, parents will have time to peacefully enjoy the interesting range of shops in Airlie Beach and Proserpine. Morning and afternoon sessions will be held with varying age groups running throughout the week and classes will be fun and interactive. These workshops are free of charge to house guests.

Resort owner Naomi McKinnon says, “our January holiday workshops are hugely popular and we have many guests who come back every year just because their kids love these activities. Even for those kids who don’t like organised classes, there are still heaps of things to do around the resort and friends to play with. We really try to ensure there is plenty of choice for everyone.”

Jointly funded by BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort and a $250,000 federal grant from the Tourism Industry Regional Development Fund (TIRF), owner Greg McKinnon said, “we are thrilled to be starting the hands-on process of building the facility after all the applications and paperwork are now completed. We believe we have come up with a beautiful design which will work for many different groups and The Palm House will be a real asset to the Whitsundays meeting market. We appreciate the support of the Federal Government grant to help the Whitsundays area grow and prosper.”
